By now, if you are a Marilyn fan -- or, you aren't -- you've heard about "My Week with Marilyn," the new film coming out November 23rd starring Michelle Williams as the late and great Marilyn Monroe.
What amazes me most is how much controversy this little film has stirred up in the entertainment world. People have gotten protective, vicious and judgemental real quick with any mention of Marilyn Monroe; or someone else portraying her. {Myself included.}
The buzz started real early on, with the casting of Michelle Williams and the age old question "Is she right to play Marilyn?" Honestly, who can decide that? Isn't an actresses' job to become someone else? It has everything to do with talent and less to do with the actual resemblance. Or did I miss something in Theatre 101?
I don't know a lot about Michelle Williams, acting wise. I liked her in "Brokeback Mountain" and obviously, knew she was the love of Heath Ledger's life before his passing.
Do I think she is a good Marilyn? Yeah, I do. But that's beside the point. There is MUCH MORE to being Marilyn than the hair, the fashion and the voice. It's about attitude and believability. Judging by some of the clips I've seen, I think she's got it in the bank.
My only gripe may be with the actual storyline of the film itself. It appears to be quite dramatic and sensationalized and frankly, the only "fictitious" film about Marilyn I enjoyed and felt did her some justice was "Norma Jean and Marilyn" from 1996 (must-see, by the way!).
I just hope this movie doesn't continue to propel the false beliefs about Marilyn and her life. But, if all else fails, it will surely be entertaining!
An honest take on motherhood, psychology, love, life and bohemianism. In support of music, film, art and the written word…and all that jazz!

Netflix = Godsend or Curse?
We signed up for the “free trail” of Netflix on our (new, 42 inch flat screen) TV.
Little did I know what I was getting myself into.
Little did I know what I was getting myself into.
Immediately I knew this was either the greatest thing to ever happen to us…or, a grave mistake.
Countless episodes of:
- Toddlers and Tiaras
- Clean House
- Hoarders
- Mad Men
- Law and Order
- Medium
- Ghost Adventures
- Criss Angel Mindfreak (drool)
- Heroes
- Parenthood
- Weeds
- Bones
- Reno 911
- Intervention
- Dr 90210
- Nip/Tuck
- Prison Break
- Breaking Bad
- Paranormal State
- The Wonder Years
- Psych
- Caillou
- Spongebob Squarepants
- Dora the Explorer
I could always watch Army Wives, Jersey Shore, Teen Mom or Pawn Stars…but, WHY?
I have already spent a few evenings (into the wee hours of the AM) scrolling thru my options.
God help us when the actual 'full blown membership' (and 1000s more to choose from) kicks in….
God help us when the actual 'full blown membership' (and 1000s more to choose from) kicks in….
(Let me not forget to mention that there are MOVIES on there as well, not just TV shows. I am in so.much.trouble.)
In the wise words of Al Bundy, “They will be able to find me by the butt prints on my couch cushion if I ever go missing.”
Scary, scary thought.

Here’s a Thought…
It seems like every. single. day I (guiltily) peruse the gossip shows, rags and blogs and see another Hollywood/celebrity break-up. Or another train wreck.
I have quite a few opinions and words of advice. Because after all, I’m entitled as an American to share my two cents.
Recently “poor little” Taylor Swift finds herself dumped….again. And, by phone. (Who cares?!) The exact words on Perezhilton.com were “Awwww. Poor thing.” Um – here’s a thought: TRY NOT DATING. TRY BEING SINGLE FOR AWHILE. TRY FINDING YOURSELF AND FULFILLING SOME GOALS WITHOUT A MAN. TRY BEING A GOOD ROLE MODEL FOR ALL THE YOUNG GIRLS LOOKING UP TO YOU. You are 21 years old. You’ve got all the time in the world. Don’t turn into a co-dependent, needy girl who feels she has to have a man to be someone. Seriously – you’re rich. And famous. And pretty. What the hell? You need some guy to make you feel complete?
I have recently succumbed to the dreaded reality show obsession. Not all of em because I seriously can’t stand The Bachelor, the dancing/singing shows and any of those ridiculous wedding ones. Ick. What I do find myself drawn into? The Housewife shows. Dammit; I thought I was safe.
Camille Grammer – are you really trying to back pedal now? You spent an entire season being a total egotistical, high n mighty, immature, stuck up snob and now you want people to feel sorry for you? Oh – your husband was cheating on you. Do you blame him? Get a clue, woman.
A special shout-out to “Dr. Drew.” Shut the hell up, dude. I can’t even believe how pompous and big-mouthed you are. Are you even a real doctor? (I checked; he is. Crap.)
Telling celebs that you have never even met or spoken to that a) they are alcoholics and heroin addicts and b) that their relationships are doomed and c) that you will “frame” a celeb to get them to go into treatment is not your place. Go back to Loveline and your MTV show, doofus. (Celebs in question: Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Sebastian Bach and Lindsay Lohan..and I am sure there are others.)
And my personal favorite – Lindsay Lohan. I actually love her. I feel sorry for her and I think people are too rough on her. The girls got issues, duh. A crappy upbringing and too much, too soon will always turn out this way. Anyone remember Drew Barrymore in the early 90s? Yeah. So, yes Lindsay has made a whole buttload of mistakes – and I truly believe she will make it. But my advice? Stay the hell out of cars and stay the hell out of bars until you have been sober for at least 30 days. Hey, maybe move out of Hollywood and try to get your life together.
Oh, and Lady Gaga - your music is amazing. I think you are uber-talented. But you aren’t Madonna and you certainly aren’t Bono. Keep your meat dresses and your “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” speeches to yourself. And invest in some serious skin care products or something. You are 24 and look 44.
I could honestly go all day with this but I'll stop. I think it’s safe to say you can now call me “Dr. Sarah.” Ooooooh; I like that! I am not a real doctor but one day, with my psych degree, I too can talk openly and unsolicited about celebs and others – and still be able to sleep at night.

Lynch-o-phile
I am pretty astonished I've had this blog for TWO YEARS ..(yep, Oct. 2008 was my first post) and I have never, ever mentioned my love and appreciation for director, David Lynch. Probably because most of you would be bored to tears. And, maybe have no clue who he is or why exactly I am obsessed with a director, of all things.
I grew up wanting to be an actress. I love cinema, theatre, you name it. I think it is a true art form. I also love when you can see someone's "vision" or take on the world by how they put something together. Like, a director does. Besides, a lot of people love Tim Burton (me too) so you can see the appeal a director can have.
If you are a true movie freak, you've no doubt heard of David Lynch. Most notably, he was the creator and director of the 1990 short-lived TV series, "Twin Peaks." Hands down, that show is like crack to me. I get completely consumed in the characters, the stories, the music (a good portion of my music player is TP music), the locations. I can't get enough. They even have created a "Twin Peaks Festival" in Washington (where the show was filmed) and it costs mega bucks...and I want to go. Badly. Maybe one day I will. It's on my Bucket List.
If you haven't heard of Twin Peaks, maybe you've heard of Blue Velvet? Lost Highway? The Elephant Man? Wild at Heart? Mulholland Drive? Eraserhead? Dune?......Well, do yourself a favor and check these out. They are definitely "odd" but this is WHY I love this man.
When describing him and his films to a friend once, this is what I said:
"It's like trying to solve a giant puzzle in your mind and I will dream and analyze and think on his plots for hours afterward. And, I always end up with a headache but it's a good headache."
The coolest thing about David Lynch is that no one REALLY knows what his stories are about. They are either his own bizarre concoction (and thus, only make sense to him) or they aren't supposed to make sense...to the rest of us.
Either way, I think he's brilliant.

Instant Smile!
I have been a die-hard fan of Kylie Minogue since 2003. Her album, "Fever", literally...changed my life. You know how it is, when a certain song represents a time in your life, a feeling, an era, even. It can be so powerful and potent. I feel one thing when I listen to Kylie: hope. I feel like there are good times waiting out there somewhere, I feel good being a woman and I feel excited about things.
I ♥ this song/video...it was released just this year. Enjoy!

Song & Emotion
Music is one of the most important and special things in my life. It comforts me when most other things cannot. I am someone who loves words. Lyrics. I see them as being "poetry" more often than not.
This morning, driving to work, my iPod hit an old song I hadn't heard in a looooong time. The Corrs are such a delightful group and I love listening to them. This song rang true in my ears, for many reasons....thought I'd share the lyrics for you here.
And, do yourself a favor. Check out their CDs; they are really wonderful.

Hideaway
It's time to change, throw out the books and start again
Break all the rules, fall on your face, don't be ashamed
You can't waste more time, 'cause you've been gone for far too long
Trapped in his arms, safe without harm
Follow your heart, don't be afraid
You think that you're OK
But I don't believe in what you say
You think that it's too late
But it's not good, good enough for you
Don't hide away
'Cause I know that you've got what it takes
I believe you can be what you wanna be
Let yourself go, don't you worry about a thing
Breaking the chains - so hard to begin
Follow your heart, don't be afraid
You think that you're OK
But it's not good, good enough for you
Don't hide away
'Cause I know that you've got what it takes
I believe you can be what you wanna be
Don't hide away
'Cause I know that you've got, got what it takes
And I believe you can be what you wanna be

Glamazon of the Moment: Scarlett Johansson
I really, really adore Scarlett.
It took me awhile, to get over my *ahem* "blonde issue"... but really, how could you not be inspiried by someone so beautiful, spunky & Monroe-esque?! I love her personality and attitude, not to mention, being a modern day Marilyn.
She's not a bad actress either. Quite talented, I would say.

Glamazon of the Moment: Lisa Marie Presley

So, yeah. I know many, many people may not agree with my choice of today's Glamazon.
But, as I have said previously on my Glamazon posts: beauty has a different definition for everyone. There are people that the public finds soooo attractive that I think are disgusting. LOL. Everyone is entitled to like who they like.
Lisa Marie means a great deal to me. I have been compared to her (physically) for about 10 years or so. I take it as a compliment :-)
I discovered her music when I was about 25. And, I have never been the same. She is incredibly poetic & introspective. And raw. Her emotion comes right through the song. I would recommend listening to her. Nothing like her Dad (which, wouldn't be a bad thing; I love Elvis!) but she is her own person entirely.
Gotta love the tough ones too! :) She really is an inspiration to me. Strong women, who speak their minds & are beautiful & smart - how could you not be a fan?

{Must See}

In lieu of finally coming to an iron-clad decision about moving to Texas; I can't help but feel completely overwhelmed with excitement.
Just the prospect of going to a whole, new place, with new people & new things & new surroundings makes me giddy.
I'm looking at this as a huge adventure. But, I am also realistic in that, life will still be life. Work, bills, home, baby, stress. It will still be a part of my daily routine, but at least I get to chose where I will end up.
To get me into the mood even more (heehee), I decided to watch a film that I own, and have only seen once; but really felt the need to watch again.
"Giant"is a 1956 drama film directed by George Stevens from a screenplay adapted by Fred Guiol and Ivan Moffat from the novel by Edna Ferber. The movie stars Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean and features Carroll Baker, Jane Withers, Chill Wills, Mercedes McCambridge, Dennis Hopper, Sal Mineo, Rod Taylor and Earl Holliman. Giant was the last of James Dean's three films as a leading actor, and earned him his second and last Academy Award nomination – he was killed in a car accident before the film was released. Nick Adams was called in to do some voice-over dubbing for Dean's role.
I love anything that Elizabeth Taylor does. And, who can resist an EPIC?

Glamazon of the Moment: Monica Bellucci

Okay, I'd be fibbing if I said this lady was just the Glamazon of the "Moment" because, quite honestly, she is the most beautiful woman on the face of this Earth (to me). If I could pay 1 Million dollars to have someone else's face & body: this is her. I think you can see why...
Italian, talented, curvy & all woman. I just adore her!
Monica Anna Maria Bellucci (born 30 September 1964) is an Italian actress and fashion model. She is considered an Italian sex symbol. She is currently a face of a range of Dior Cosmetics.

Glamazon of the Moment: Vanessa Paradis
She's French.
Her voice is heavenly & sweet as pure sugar.
She is beyond lovely & absolutely stunning, in fact.
She's married to....Johnny Depp.
What is NOT to love? Bonus points: She is a Sagittarius.
And, I also "discovered" one of my favorite artists, Chet Baker, because of a Vanessa Paradis song.
Do yourself a favor and check out her music! I own all her albums; she is amazing.

{Amado Mio}
Rita Hayworth: singing Amado Mio (from "Gilda")...I still get goosebumps, everytime I hear it.
Glamazon of the Moment: Sherilyn Fenn
I am doing these blog spots as a fun, lil tribute to a particular person that I personally adore, for whatever reason! :)
"Beauty" has a different definition for everyone. And who doesn't like to look at beautiful things?
My first choice is Sherilyn Fenn. She is heart-stoppingly beautiful and watching her play "Audrey Horn" in (my favorite) tv show, Twin Peaks was a real treat. Plus, she's a dead ringer for Elizabeth Taylor - LUCKY GIRL!
ENJOY!
Sherilyn Fenn (born February 1, 1965) is an Emmy- and Golden Globe award-nominated American actress. She came to international attention for her performance on the 1990 cult TV series Twin Peaks. She is also known for her roles in Of Mice and Men, Ruby, Boxing Helena and Rude Awakening, and for portraying actress Elizabeth Taylor in Liz: The Elizabeth Taylor Story. (via Wikipedia).
