What I am Thankful for... ♥

Oh, 2009. You have been the bleakest, worst year of my life thus far (besides, of course, all the years in the early 90s I was a teenage runaway on the streets of West Hollywood); but, somehow, I have made it almost to the end, and I am awaiting 2010 with great anticipation and excitement!

One of my previous posts referred to how the human race likes to focus on the negatives, the weaknesses, the things that are "not perfect" or "wrong." But, what I've found has been we must look at the good, always, no matter what. No matter how lost we are feeling or alone. The good is there.

With it now being the holiday season where we give thanks, assess our blessings and spend time with loved ones, I thought I would add my own personal "thanks" to the mix.
This year, I am thankful for these things.

My family-- I have been the most difficult child for my parents to deal with, my entire life, I consistently have problems, breakdowns and go against the grain - but my family is shockingly, always right there next to me. And, they support anything I do, whether they agree with it or not. The true definition of family, to me, is loving someone unconditionally not because you have to, but because you just do.

My friends -- I believe we will make many, many friends in our lifetimes. Some are long term, some are short term, some are there for a specific reason. Whichever the kind, appreciate them all. I do now. Especially those who've shown their loyalty and true friendship to me. I love them so much. Real friends do not abandon you in dark times, they light the candle to help lead your way through.

My beautiful little girl -- Definitely the best, and most rewarding event of my life, is becoming a Mother and having Berlyn. She is the reason for everything. ♥

Beyond the people I am most thankful for, I am also thankful for the fact that I am now 30 years old. According to the book, "New Passages" by Gail Sheehy, ages 30-45 is considered the "first real adulthood"...which, really  is comforting to think about! As I put on my Facebook status "According to Gail Sheehy's book, "New Passages", your first REAL adulthood does not begin til age 30. So, does this mean all the stupid decisions, grave mistakes and embarrassing debacles I've created in the last 12 years don't count?! SWEET!!"...Haha! It truly is a new beginning in so many ways.
I am thankful for continuing education, God, Dave Ramsey, music, film and literature. Philosophy, Psychology & Social Work --subjects that really improve human life.
I could literally, go on and on...and on. But, I won't. I just wanted to put this into writing so I can remember my blessings when I really need to. It's easy to lose sight of things when you are going through hard times.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone...and hope your holiday season is filled with love, warmth and growth! ♥
